CHANGES TO FIRST HOME BUYER BENEFITS. From January 1, stamp duty exemptions and concessions are available only if you're buying brand new property or vacant land.
$7000 FIRST HOME-BUYER GRANT LIMIT STILL $835K. The $7000 grant is still available if you're buying a property up to $835,000 - even if it's an established house or apartment.

INTEREST RATES REMAIN LOW. The Reserve Bank of Australia reduced interest rates by 25 basis points at its December 2011 meeting. There was no meeting in January.
